Secretary Jenner Visits South Central Schools to Celebrate IREAD-3 Results

Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana’s Secretary of Education, recently visited South Central Schools to celebrate outstanding achievement on the state’s third-grade reading test (IREAD-3). Across the state, nearly one in five Hoosier students are not reading proficiently by the end of third grade. But South Central’s students are achieving exceptional results. In 2023, 96.6% of students at South Central Elementary passed IREAD-3!

Since 2021, SkyBound Education has had the privilege to support South Central Schools and five other Indiana districts as they’ve participated in a strategic planning consortium focused on making the most of federal pandemic-relief funds. As part of this process, South Central drafted, revised, and published a strategic plan with several goals, including a commitment to “[preparing] students to access rigorous, authentic high school pathways by ensuring that students in grades K-8 exceed average passing rates on local, state, and national assessments.” Recent results suggest the South Central team is well on their way to achieving their goals!
